Phone Sales Go Down 9%, as Samsung and Apple Still Dominate the Market

New data shared by analyst firm Canalys reveals that phone sales went down 9 percent in the second quarter of the year as compared to the same period in 2021.

The numbers show that Samsung secured the leading spot with 21 percent market share, followed by Apple with 17 percent.

However, the reasons the two are currently the undisputed leaders in the phone market are quite different. Samsung, for instance, topped the charts thanks to the Galaxy A series, a low-end phone that is selling like hotcakes these days.

Apple, on the other hand, secured the runner-up spot thanks to its premium iPhone 13 lineup, as the data confirms the entire lineup continued to be in high demand.

Canalys, however, says that the interest in more affordable smartphones is increasing substantially, and this is the reason the Galaxy A performed so well.
